Wyde Soma Review
Why this is our shoe for 2026.
There are shoes we review. And then there are shoes we recommend without hesitation to almost everyone who walks through our door.
Wyde's Soma is the latter. It is the number one shoe we recommend at MFF. Not because it is the most expensive, or the most technical, or the most talked about — but because it is the shoe we can safely put in someone's hands and say: this will not let your feet down.
"This is the shoe we reach for when someone asks us what they should be wearing. Full stop."
We wear it for work. On our feet all day, across different surfaces, in the kind of conditions that separate a good shoe from a great one. The Soma earns that description every time.
Shape — taper line, volume and heel fit
The Soma's shape is what makes it exceptional. The toe box follows the natural outline of the foot — wide, straight, with almost no taper. There is no point in this shoe where it asks your foot to be something it isn't.
For medium to extra wide feet, this is transformative. Your toes sit exactly where they belong. They spread naturally with each step. The forefoot is not compressed, not redirected, not managed — it is simply given the space it needs to function as it was designed to.
Volume is generous throughout without being loose. The heel sits securely without gripping. The zero drop geometry means your foot is in a completely neutral position — heel and forefoot at the same height, weight distributed evenly across the whole structure.
The structure of this shoe places no restriction on the foot whatsoever. That is not a casual claim. It is the result of deliberate design by people who understand how feet work — including input from MFF. The engineered flex line included in the outsole & carefully selected materials allow for the foot to not incur restriction.
Function — fit for purpose
The Soma is built for life. Work, city, travel, long days on your feet — it handles all of it without asking you to compromise anywhere. We have actually been enjoying the sneaker as a running shoe, and although not marketed this way, we believe it rivals most of the minimal purpose built running shoes out there.
The zero drop is immediately comfortable for most foot types — no transition period, no calf soreness. You put them on, you walk, and within an hour you stop noticing the shoe entirely. What you do notice, by the end of the day, is that your feet feel better than they should.
Who we believe this shoe is for
The Soma is for anyone who spends significant time on their feet and wants footwear that works with them rather than against them. Particularly:
- Medium to extra wide feet — this is where the Soma is unmatched in its category
- People on their feet all day at work who are tired of fatigue and discomfort
- Those curious about barefoot principles but not ready for a fully minimal shoe
- Anyone managing foot conditions — hallux valgus, bunions, plantar issues — where toe box space genuinely matters
- People who have spent years wearing shoes that didn't fit properly and are ready to change that
The Soma is not a structured support shoe — the neutral platform means those who rely on significant arch support will want to add orthotics. And if you prefer a sleeker silhouette, the wider toe box has a distinctive look that is not for everyone. Both are fair considerations.
But for the vast majority of people who come to MFF looking for a shoe their feet will thank them for — this is the answer.
Our verdict
We have recommended a lot of shoes over the years. For a long time, every recommendation came with a quiet caveat — best on offer, given what's available, a good option considering. The Soma removed that caveat.
This is the shoe we are safe recommending. Safe because we know what it does, we know how it performs, and we know the difference it makes to people who've spent years in footwear that was never built for their feet. The attention to detail is exceptional. The foot health credentials are genuine. The experience across a full day is unlike anything else at this price point.
Would we buy it? It is the shoe we recommend above all others — that answers the question.
Who for? Medium to extra wide feet, all-day wear, anyone who takes their foot health seriously.
Who not for? Those needing significant built-in arch support, or preferring a very thin shoe.
